If you’re anything like me, you love the texture and interactive nature of physical products. Hybrid scrapbooking is the perfect marriage of the ease of digital scrapbooking and the dynamic experience of physical products. Here are a few staples that I keep on hand that are versatile enough to work with almost any digital product.
1. Basic shapes + many textures
I’m always on the hunt for various shapes in different textures. My favorites are hearts, stars, circles and geotags. I keep a good stock of these in many different colors and textures including wood, rubber, transparency, chipboard, acrylic/plastic, epoxy and puffy stickers. I love the way they create texture and dimension to digital products by highlighting certain colors and making spreads more interesting.
2. Number + letter stickers
Letter and number stickers are so versatile. You can use them to build titles, write dates, denote initials, age and create journaling blocks like I did on this spread. I keep a large stash of these on hand so that I have a color and size to match any project.
3. Quality printing paper
If you print your digital elements or completed pages out, it’s worth the investment to pick a quality paper that is going to make your colors vibrant. I use Epson photo paper for photos and Neenah Solar White Cardstock and/or photo paper to print elements out. If I want colors muted I will sometimes print them on cardstock as the color won’t be as rich.
4. Pop dots to raise elements
I love highlighting certain embellishments by raising them with pop dots. For this spread I had originally adhered the “70” tag down but after popping it up loved the way that it highlighted that number, one of the most important elements on the page since it’s about my dad turning 70.
5. Precision scissors
When you cut out digital elements, especially small ones or detailed ones, you need fine scissors to get effectively between the nooks and crannies of detailed images. Any sharp and small pair of scissors will do the trick. And a quick tip about cutting out elements; keep your scissor hand still and move the paper around the scissors. This helps you have more control and precision as you cut.
I hope that these tools will help you work more effectively with digital elements and inspire you to get crafting!
