5 ways to make a scrapbook layout more fun - Sahin Designs

Have you ever created a scrapbook layout and wondered what it was missing? Did it seem plain or boring, and lack any interest? Today, I am going to share with you 5 different ways to make your scrapbook layouts more fun. These simple techniques can be used individually or combined on a spread to make the page more eye-catching.

Here are 5 ways to make a scrapbook layout more fun:

Add dimension

Dimension is a great way to add interest to your layouts. This can be done by lifting or folding up the edges of the papers, elements, or photos so that they are not flat on the page. This can also be done by adding pieces of thin craft foam or foam adhesive behind these items.

Add layering

Layering papers from a collection is another way to make a layout more fun. Rather than having a single piece of solid or patterned paper behind your photo, make it more interesting by adding several papers. It’s also a great opportunity to play with the beautiful patterns in a scrapbook collection or from your paper stash.

Elements within a collection can also be layered to add interest. For example, place a word strip over a label or adhere a circular element to a label.

Add twine or ribbon

Twine and ribbon can also be used on a layout to make it more interesting. These items add texture to an otherwise paper based project. They can also be purchased in a variety of colors and patterns that can add a fun pop to your page. I love the simplicity of white twine, so that is what I mainly use on my projects.

The “look” of ribbon can also be created by using a strip of patterned or solid paper. In the example, I used a digital ribbon from the Golden Days Elements and stapled it to a tag. It looks just like real ribbon!

Add stitching or staples

Machine stitching, hand stitching, and staples are all great ways to make a layout more fun. They can be used to add texture and interest to a page, or as an alternative to using traditional glue or tape to adhere items to a spread.

Stitching and staples are also available digitally in many collections. In this example, I used digital stitching from the Snow Flurries Elements.

Add paints, mists, or stamping inks

Paints, mists, and stamping inks can be used on a layout to add interest. Many of the digital collections that are now available include these items as digital elements. This makes them easy to use and not nearly as messy!
