As much as I love designing with smooth vector lin As much as I love designing with smooth vector lines, I can't say no to some watercolor practice! I designed these as simple watercolor circles and lines on paper, then digitized, recolored and turned into this delicate floral pattern in Photoshop. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
You can get this pattern as part of my latest scrapbook collection "Here & Now" at my online store. #sahindesigns

Carrying around my DSLR camera always feels like a Carrying around my DSLR camera always feels like a chore. But I also prefer the quality photos it produces. So I also asked Kristin what she can suggest to make it easier. @paperandphotographs says;⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
"The best advice for getting better at using your DSLR is always: bring it with you everywhere. I know, it's really boring to hear, because it's not a quick fix... But it's the only way to really get to know it. You can't expect to take brilliant photos with it when it really matters, unless you practice with it when it _doesn't_ really matter, know what I mean? There are, however, a few things we can do to make it easier.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
1. Choose a smaller lens. For me, that is always a prime lens (also called fixed-focus lens) (my favourite is a Canon EF 50mm f/1,4 USM). Zoom lenses are big, heavy and expensive, and I only bring them as extras at weddings, concerts or other photography gigs; my prime lens is still my favourite. And it saves me a LOT of space + weight!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
2. Choose a camera bag that is as snug as you possibly can. Sure, when I need to bring several different lenses, I have a bigger bag for that. But for everyday use, my camera bag is so snug that it really only fits my camera with my small lens on it, and one extra battery and one extra memory card in a tiny side pocket.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
3. Practice carrying it in different ways. I have three "modes" that I switch between: I keep my camera bag in my backpack when I'm out and don't think I'll need it immediately; I keep it in my tote bag with all my other stuff (wallet, headphones etc.) when I'm in town or at a party or hanging out with friends and I want easy access; and I carry the camera bag directly over my shoulder on its own when I'm out in nature, and I'm likely to pick it up every five minutes. You probably also have these different "modes" that you could switch between to be more comfortable, but haven't really thought of yet."⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Don't you all just ooh and aah when you see the ph Don't you all just ooh and aah when you see the photos @paperandphotographs uses in her layouts? I'm in love how she captures the light and colors true to what we see with our own eyes. So I asked her what tips she can give to us all, fellow memory keepers, who love using DSLR for everyday life photography. Here's what se says;
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
"Getting the colours right can be tricky, and while I often edit photos in Photoshop, I try to get the photos as close to what I want as I can, while I'm shooting. It just saves me time compared to fixing things in Photoshop later.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The key to getting the colours right is white balance. And of course, we can always set white balance manually... But it's such a faff to carry a white or grey card, and I don't want to spend time setting it manually if I'm taking photos of my friends - I don't want to keep them waiting (too long :)). What I DO have time for, however, is pressing one single button to change the white balance "mode" depending on where I am/ what the weather is like. Your camera probably also has some version of these white balance settings - little images to represent different light conditions such as shade, bright sunlight and so on. Explore them and see what you like! I almost always use the Tungsten setting for indoor light, which tends to be very warm and more yellow than I like my photos to be. And I often use the Cloudy setting for overcast outdoor light, which tends to be colder than I like. These settings compensate for that, but they are based on my personal taste, so it takes some exploring to get used to it."
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Thank you Kristin for sharing your wisdom with us!
