This year is all about discovering and trying new techniques for me so I wanted to attempt at making a traditional scrapbooking layout. I have an entire board on my Pinterest dedicated to traditional layouts but the larger scale proved to be intimidating to me. But since I’ve moved to a smaller album (6×8) this year, I figured this would be a great time to start small and go larger as I get more comfortable.
For this particular project I didn’t know what I was going to do, so I dug through some photos I had laying around and discovered some 2×2 selfies I took at the beginning of the month. Then I proceeded to print off 3×3 prints of every card and paper from the Portraits collection along with the all the elements.
I started laying element tags on top of pieces of paper, cutting things up, and at times taking it all apart. At first I tried to color coordinate each of the squares but then I realized it was more interesting if I didn’t. Once that happened, everything seemed to flow nicely.
After I had everything pieced together and glued down I started playing around with arrangement. At first I had 6 squares for my layout but it seemed lacking. So I discarded the 6th square and added a splatter element from the Fete collection to the corner then layered an element tag and part of a 3×4 card to add some interest.
At times I feel a bit restricted trying to fit everything with the pocket pages but by “jumping out the pocket” I was able to gain more control and freedom creatively. I loved doing this traditional layout, the smaller scale was easy for me to get into and I’ll definitely be doing more of these throughout the year.
