Painting embellishments is a new trend that is really easy for you to duplicate at home. It’s a great way to make some of your older stash look new again, and is especially easy to do with wood veneer. Today I’ll show you how to easily paint both wood veneer and cork stickers to match my Project Life layout.
Supplies Needed:
- Embellishment
- Acrylic Paint
- Paintbrush
- Washi Tape (or masking tape)
Step 1: Choose where to mask off the embellishment
Using your washi tape, mask off a portion of the embellishment. I like to use washi instead of masking tape because washi comes easily off of most surfaces. The current trend is to angle your lines, you can even use more than one color and tape your embellishment several times. Just be sure to let it completely dry between paint applications.
Step 2: Paint!
Paint with light coats on the side of the tape that you want. Thin coats are the best to avoid splotches or drops that stay sticky. Bright colors will cover really well, light colors will take more than one coat. This is a great way to match your embellishments to your layout, or add a contrasting color. To keep my stickers sticky I place them on a piece of leftover acetate while I paint them so they will still stick onto my layout.
Step 3: Wait
This is always the hardest part for me, but make sure you wait for the paint to dry before you remove the washi tape from your embellishment. If you remove the tape too soon it will smudge and the line won’t be neat.
Done!
Now simply add your embellishment onto your layout!
