Hi everyone! Jessica here with some story telling tips for you. Lately, there has been a few big events happen in my weeks that cause for much celebration. Things like weddings, summer picnics, and mini vacations are all being documented in my weekly project life spreads.
However, I started to notice there were small moments in between these bigger stories that were getting lost in the shuffle or simple weren’t being documented because “I didn’t have room”.
Well, I’m here to say don’t let this happen to you! These little stories and moments really make up life and I’m so glad that I’ve taken the time to capture these in my albums. Here are my tips for you!
1.Small stories sometimes need small pages
My 2016 album size is 9×12, but these 6×8 inserts are perfect for adding a couple photos and journaling cards. This makes it quick to put the spreads together so the tasks doesn’t feel daunting.
2.Focus on a theme
Look at the story and see if there is an underlying topic. The Table for Two collection was perfect for my story capturing when I met my family for lunch during my latest trip to Ohio. While the food itself wasn’t notable in this instance, the theme of gathering together around a meal made for a story.
3.Use kits as a story prompt
Once you know your theme, you can use those journaling cards as prompts to tell the story. In this layout, I used the Table for Two cards to mark my location and the atmosphere of the restaurant when we sat down to eat.
Finally, just keep it simple. Even the smallest, simplest spread in your Project Life album will bring you joy looking back many years from now.
Are you documenting these little, micro stories? If so, I’d love to hear your tips for incorporating them into your album amongst the big stories.
hmm this is true, and I have noticed that I often have that “no space” feeling about some of the smaller moments when I am working on my yearbook – but I do digital rather than paper, which makes adding an insert more tircky! I thought it over though, and I have decided to have a few pages at the end of the book for “out takes”, or little moments that I didn’t have space for the on the main monthly page. Thanks for the idea!
Thanks Corin! I love the idea of out takes at the end of the book!
