Hello everyone! Enza back today to share a few tips on how to add color to your pages in a simple and easy way. I’m not a mixed media expert, by all means. Although I love the look of it, I don’t feel like I have mastered this technique well enough to apply it to my layouts. However, I like to challenge myself and I have found that sometimes you don’t need much more that a few tools to achieve a colorful look.
Here is my layout:
The main inspiration came from the Fearless collection, which includes a lovely patterned paper full of poppies and dandelions. I found the perfect cut file to use as background for my page. At first I was going for a white-on-white look, but then I thought I could make the shapes pop by just adding a little bit of color. You can use any type of medium for this, depending on the look you want to achieve. Watercolor paint for a softer look, or acrylics for stronger hues. In my case, spray inks worked perfectly, as the shades could be easily adjusted by just varying the amount of water added. If you feel brave, VersaMark Ink and embossing powder can be an option as well.
I painted only the the tips of the the flowers, as I wanted to keep the center soft and light. Once all the dandelions were placed on the page, I used a mix of patterned papers and embellishments from several Sahin Designs collections to back the photo and give it some dimension.
At this point, it felt like my layout was missing something, and the colors were not standing out enough. By just adding enamel dots in the center of the flowers and paint splatters in coordinating colors all over the page, I was able to bring in that extra touch my page needed.
I personally love how this layout turned out. Soft and delicate, but with a little bit of spark. Mixed media can be intimidating, but it doesn’t have to stop you from adding color and your own touch to your projects.
Thank you for stopping by. Have a lovely day!
