Scrapbook On The Go | Photo Editing | Sahin Designs

Hello everyone! It’s me again, Pepper. Let’s continue our topic on scrapbooking on the go. Keeping on track with our daily memory keeping isn’t an easy task, but I’m so excited to share with you some of my tips on photo editing processes including the apps that I use that makes this much easier, and better !

It’s not too long ago that photo editing apps became popular, and we used to edit most of our photos on computers which tends to complicate the process and workflow. Just recently I got into the habit of editing photos that I took during the day on the train home from work. It has saved quite a lot of time when it comes to valuable scrapbooking time as all I need to do after is to transfer the edited photos onto my computer and it’s ready to go!

The app i’m using is called VSCO. It is available on both Google Play and App Store. My first step is to import photos that I’m editing into the app. Here is how the app interface looks like.

What I love so much about this app are the beautiful presets available both free or to purchase as add-ons in the app. Presets are great because they speed up my photo editing process. The magic of VSCO is that you Presets do not entirely take over how you want the picture to look like, but provides a good starting canvas from which you can still further edit. After that, I do a little fine tuning in terms of the exposure, sharpness, shadows and highlights. I sometimes like to fade the photo a little, which is more of a personal preference in style. Each of the fine tuning options as well as the presets has a slider, much like those in Adobe Lightroom, which gives you full control on the edits.

One final thing that significantly speeds up my scrapbooking process is the “Copy edits” and “Paste edits” option. It is LIFE CHANGING! Once I’m done editing one photo and if I have photos that are taken under the same lighting conditions, I’m most likely to use the same editing procedures. The availability of this option has radically changed the tedious process of “re-editing” every photo.  This is also akin to the Lightroom “Sync” function. How awesome!

Sometimes, I transfer the photos from my DSLR to my photo using the camera’s inbuilt wi-fi function and edit the photos here as well. Photos can be exported at large pixels (original) so that they are minimally compressed. This is what I have done for my Korea travel photos that you may have seen in the project in my previous post.

I cannot stress enough how much these two habits of scrapbooking on the go (both journaling and photo editing) has helped to simplify things and keep me “on track” for my scrapbooking . I now have more time to spend with the physical process of scrapbooking (papers, stamps and all !) and enjoy the scrapbooking process even more !

Here is a sneak peek of a new collection coming up at Sahin Designs. A little hint for you, it has something to do with “meta-scrapbooking” *wink* If you like what you see, stay tune!

  1. Hi Elif,

I just subscribed to your newsletter and I’m taking the time to browse through some of your helpful tips. I noticed you wrote this Blog quite some time ago and I was wondering if you still use the VSCO app to edit your photos. I’ve used Snapseed as well as recently downloaded PicTapGo & Over. Just wondering if you prefer any of these now…thank you.

    1. Hi Christianne!

Thank you for subscribing! I’m glad you like the content here. This article has been written by my team member Pepper Tan. She uses those apps and I am also using VSCO app sometimes. Snapseed is pretty useful too! It’s great for basic edits of photographs taken by a smart phone. In these days though, I use Lightroom app to edit my photos on phone and ipad. It’s much more powerful and you can create your own “presets” in it if you have a certain way of editing photos every time. It also allows you to import presets into the app so there are options to buy Lightroom mobile presets to be used in the app if you search on Google.

Though, if I have time I love to bring my photos to my computer to be edited either in Photoshop CameraRaw or in Lightroom Desktop. They give me more room for fine adjustments. And I can batch edit a lot of photos on desktop. It’s all a matter of preference though! If you don’t have time to spend on your computer, I’d say go with Lightroom app. Comparing to VSCO and Snapseed, it gives you more options to edit (especially on white balance and color corrections).

      I hope it’s helpful!
