Hey guys! Carolina here again to show you a hybrid pocket scrapbook layout I made with the latest collection ‘Special Day’. As soon as I saw the following picture from the collection bundle, I knew I was going to have lots of fun with it, and most important, the layout was going to come up like pretty easy! yay!
You may find the Special Day colection in the store :)
So, as I explained in previous post Baby’s Project Life, I like working with contrast to create balance on a layout. Sometimes I get inspired by the pictures I take and some other times by the collection as in this case. My eye ran crazy on all directions checking all those neutrals on white space but stopping suddenly on that pop of green with leaves pattern <3
Once I do the same visual exercise of checking over and over the papers, cards and elements, I go to my pictures and start looking around in search of the ones that fit:
- The theme of the collection
- The color palette (as I said on previous posts, it is a bit difficult to match photos to a kit or vice-versa so, if the color palette doesn’t match at all with the chosen kit, there is always the black and white option for the pictures. It’s the perfect way to find color ‘balance’ and make more neutral those pop of colors from the photos which we are not interested to highlight as the kit already does for us)
My layout turned out to look like something like this:
As mentioned earlier, that green paper with white leaves reminded me of some of the pictures I took our past Easter when we had a barbecue in our garden. It doesn’t seem to be a special day for us at first glance but it really was. We had initially planned to go out for a few days but the car broke and it was still in the mechanic by the time Easter arrived. So, we decided to enjoy the holidays at home! Well, I’m a homebody so, I couldn’t think of anything else more special than that day! :)
The pics also have a colour relationship of the green grass of my front yard, hence the reminiscence from the green patterned paper from the collection.
I must say I loved each of the pictures and I couldn’t be happier to spread that pop of green colour throughout the layout.
I ended up choosing two 3×4 in and one 6×4 in pictures. I normally use the design A of plastic pockets to make my layouts but having chosen only 3 photos out of the 8 photos of the design A spread doesn’t seem to fit nicely. I decided to make my own plastic pockets and sealed down with my fuse tool a 12×12 in plastic pocket (I don’t scrapbook anymore) to a 9×12 in spread. I made seven 3×4 in pockets and left the bottom ones for a 6×4 in pocket for my only one photo this size.
Once I have the pockets, I place the photos following my ‘triangle’ rule to find colour balance.
Now I have to find contrast with the cards from the collection so I choose neutral colors with lots of white space (sigh…). I also use a ‘semi’ busy card (the one with the Scottish pattern on the left hand side of the spread) so I complete the ‘triangle’ rule with the pictures. The corners and the center will be more neutral and with quite lots of white to balance everything. Before continuing with the last touch of the elements I would like you to have a look at the layout to check what I have written up to this point:
The three pictures are located on top, right and bottom of the spread and the ‘semi’ busy one on the left side. The filler neutral cards on the corners and the journal card in the middle.
Now, to finish up the layout, I use the elements from the collection to ‘link’ the contrast. The spread has to have cohesion and not only show pop of colors without apparent reason so, I choose those elements who are going to complement not only the color palette from the photos on the filler cards but also the neutral colors on the photos themselves.
To see what I mean with regards to the elements:
On this close up you can already appreciate the few embellishments that complement the layout. I love wood veneers and I like the neutral ‘effect’ that they always give to a spread.
Just the circle ‘Love’ and the little cut out flower complete the full spread!
Hope you guys enjoyed reading!
See you on the next post!
xoxo
